Job SummaryResponsible for the planning, development, and initiation of various business process improvements for the Accounts Receivable and Banking Services office. Reporting to the Director of A/R and Banking Services, this position provides experience and best practices knowledge to implement new business processes and to improve existing processes to ensure student accounting tasks, roles, and responsibilities are managed effectively in the Controller’s Office.
This position will be responsible for leading business process improvements, policy and procedure review and implementation, and training pertaining to all major business processes in student accounting, including student collections, student receivables, third-party sponsor payments, refunding, fee assessments, account reconciliation, tuition waivers, and 1098T reporting.

Department DescriptionThe UCSF Controller’s organization delivers full accounting services and related systems for faculty, staff, and students, the UCSF Foundation, all University departments, and any outside entities who have a business relationship with the University. Services provided include General Ledger, Capital and Cash Accounting, Payroll, Student Loan Billing and Collections, Sponsored Research Accounting, and a Customer Service Center. The office uses sophisticated technology to account for and report on UCSF's financial activity. The candidate should have a firm understanding of accounting systems in a large and complex environment.
The Accounts Receivable and Banking Services unit is a major unit of the Controller’s office. The unit is responsible for managing bank account activity, student accounting, incoming payments, and related compliance and internal controls for the UCSF campus. In addition, this unit participates in the development, implementation, and training of new systems or processes, and provides customer support to the UCSF community who utilize our services and systems, including PeopleSoft General Ledger and interpretation of UC policies, procedures, and acceptable accounting practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Seven or more years of relevant progressive experience in a large, diversified, and complex finance-focused environment
- Expert knowledge of financial processes, policies, and procedures, as well as related accounting and regulatory compliance requirements pertaining to student accounting
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms with executive, senior management, faculty, staff, managers, and technical staff. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Expert knowledge of organization and systemwide financial processes and procedures.
- Advanced skills in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
- Analytical skills sufficient to develop and implement financial data management and reporting systems.
- Expert interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels.
- Requires skills in project management, leadership, and process re-design.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.
- Expert leadership ability within the department and external to own group.
- Skills include sophisticated service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environment; use of sound judgment and decision making, critical thinking, creative problem solving, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- This position is remote-based and requires one to work on-site four to six times a year (at the employee's expense) at our Mission Center office, located at 1855 Folsom Street, San Francisco.
